I've just plugged my Western Digital WD5000P032 (My Book) into my 24' iMac (2008). It had been my previous backup drive with the same computer.
When I plugged it in (USB) it showed up in Finder, and I went and deleted all the files so I could do a fresh backup. Deleted the files, but then the drive stopped showing up – and I can't get it to come back since:( I've unplugged it, uncabled it, reset the computer, tried Firewire as well – and nothing's happening. The System Profiler shows an 'unknown' drive to be there, and the WD website doesn't have the firmware or support for it anymore (so much for that!).
Anyone else have the same issues with older WD driver? Not sure if it's because it's not compatible with 10.6.4 or something else. I've had this problem with several USB external hard drives and USB memory sticks as well.
